Transit & Parking Options for the Way Out West Oktoberfest presented by WaMu

Driving
All streets are anticipated to be open. Traffic will be limited on Mill Avenue on Friday night between 6:30 and 7:30 pm to facilitate the Southwest Ambulance Parade of Flags. The parade route is from Hackett House at 4th and Mill Avenue to Tempe Beach Park. The street will be open to walking traffic. Plan to join us to cheer on the students in the parade!!!

Closest / Easiest Parking:
Event Parking with FREE Shuttle: Rio Salado & Hardy Road Parking Lot
This is the most convenient parking to the event, and is available for a $10 charge. FREE Shuttle service will run every 10 minutes to the event site, starting a half hour before event hours and continuing for a half hour after the event ends.

Optional Downtown Tempe Parking – No Shuttle

  • US Airways Garage - $10 just south of the park on Ash Avenue and Rio Salado Parkway
  • Hayden Square West Lot - $10 Maximum Ash Avenue between 3rd and 5th Streets
  • 5th Street and Farmer Lot - $10 Maximum
  • A.S.U. Lot 59 at Rural Road & Rio Salado $10 Friday & Sunday, $10 Saturday
  • Hayden Square Garage*- $10 Maximum 3rd Street between Mill Avenue and Ash Avenue
  • City Hall East*-$10 Maximum 5th Street just east of Mill Avenue
    o Brickyard*-$10 Maximum 7th Street east of Mill Avenue
  • Downtown Tempe Parking Meters are limited to 80 minutes, meters are free Sunday.
  • Hayden Ferry Lakeside just east of Mill Avenue on Rio Salado Parkway - event rate may apply.

Disabled Parking
Public parking is always free for people with disabilities at the meters and in the PARKIT lots and garages. Simply park your car and make sure your handicap sign is clearly visible for parking enforcement to see. Hayden Ferry Lakeside and US Airways are the nearest paved lots. Limited disabled space at the Pennysaver lot and the temporary parking lot west of Tempe Beach Park will also remain available. All FLASH buses and FREE Event Shuttles are wheelchair accessible.

Bus Service
Tempe's FREE local area shuttle (FLASH) serves Arizona State University and downtown Tempe every ten minutes on weekdays. All FLASH buses are wheelchair accessible and equipped with two bike racks.

Way Out West Oktoberfest presented by WaMu is linked by frequent bus service with Phoenix, other Valley communities, and Sky Harbor Airport. This year marks the 35th anniversary for Tempe’s Oktoberfest event, and with the support of the City of Tempe and our generous sponsors it promises to be bigger and better than ever. Attracting some 175,000 people over its three days, Oktoberfest is the largest FREE event at Tempe Town Lake.

Oktoberfest features a traditional Bavarian Beer Garden with non-stop polka on the Polka Stage, bratwurst and strudel; “Kinderfest” with arts & crafts and games for the kids, inflatable rides, carnival and family-friendly entertainment on the Sync Family Stage; food, vendor displays and popular local bands like Mogollon and Stephen Ashbrook on the Fireside Stage.
